Christmas this year is not like the previous one that the world is used to.
Christmas this year is not like the previous one that the world is used to.
There will be no bright lanterns, no Christmas carols, and no watching Christmas movies in Ukrainian homes. There will be no smell of pine needles and Christmas decorations, no marshmallow cocoa, no smell of mom’s pie.
These are the details that create the joyful atmosphere of Christmas in the modern, civilized world. This is all what we are used to and what our children are used to.
But this year Christmas was stolen from us…
Stolen?
But is it possible to steal what belongs to God? Is it possible to rob the Mighty and Almighty God, before whom the earth trembles and the tongue is dumb?
Our atmosphere was stolen, but it is impossible to steal Christmas!
It will still be in Ukraine, and no matter how strange it is written, this year’s Christmas is similar to the first, on which the Son of God was born.
The first Christmas took place in almost darkness, the barely flickering muzzle of an oil lamp. The first Christmas was in terrible conditions of unsanitary conditions and chaos. The first Christmas was under occupation.
The stable and the smelly manger were chosen by God to become closer to those who are now in the cellars and trenches. Blackout was chosen by God to be a Light for people who are perishing in darkness. He chose inhumane and very difficult conditions to feel all the despair of a Ukrainian who was left homeless and with extraordinary losses for every family that bears losses.
Leaving the throne room of Heaven, Glory and Majesty, the Son of God took on human form, because he wanted to share the pain of the oppressed people, he wanted to wipe the tears of mothers, look into the eyes of executioners, and give his life for his brothers.
In the occupation, Hope can be born…
Light can be born in darkness…
Peace can descend into chaos.
A Child can be born in suffering.
Evil is doomed…
Merry Christmas!
